HISTORY OF POLE ‘N’ TONE
Pole ‘n’ Tone was established in 2005 by Leanne Rostron, Dance Director, and became an instant hit teaching women not only to dance and get fit, but also to express themselves and have confidence.
Now enjoying exclusivity with Total Fitness in Altrincham, Bolton, Preston, Wilmslow and Whitefield, Pole ‘n’ Tone is going from strength to strength as the pole dance fitness movement continues to gather momentum.
A number of pole dance fitness courses have been developed along with a full range of merchandise, including pole dance fitness mats. The Pole ‘n Tone programme is now available for licence to expand into other gyms and premises outside Total Fitness along with the Pole ‘n’ Tone Instructor Training Course launched in 2007 - the future certainly looks positive!
Leanne’s passion for dance started at the age of two when she began ballet lessons leading her to spend 16 years training as a classical dancer. Leanne then moved into podium and club dancing which gave her the opportunity to dance professionally in some of Ibiza’s largest clubs. Along with her dancing experience, Leanne also spent 10 years training in martial arts and has a brown belt (Sankyu) in kickboxing.
Leanne has been pole dancing for five years and her many credits include being a Miss Pole Dance UK finalist and Pole Divas Championship finalist. In 2005, Leanne decided to put her experience and knowledge into teaching and Pole ‘n’ Tone was born.
In 2009, Leanne travelled to Amsterdam for Miss Pole Dance World and is part of the World Pole Committee before joining Pole Passion in Jamaica for Miss Pole Dance World sport and fitness Championships. Leanne is an active member of the pole dance community helping to develop the industry and move it forward as a recognised sport.
Now with seven instructors working in Total Fitness health clubs in Altrincham, Bolton, Preston, Wilmslow and Whitefield, and as one of the main sponsors for major competitions, Pole ‘n’ Tone has developed one of the leading pole dance fitness programmes in the UK sports and leisure industry. HISTORY OF POLE DANCING
What is pole dancing? Scantily-clad women dancing seductively around a pole entertaining men in a seedy club? A widespread opinion, yes - but exactly how accurate is that?
Do its roots lie in the ancient art of Mallakhamb, or ‘yoga on a pole or rope’, where devout yoga masters would meditate balanced on a pole or suspended by a rope? Is it a distant cousin of the ancient discipline of Mallastambha, when mallas (wrestlers) used a stambha (iron pole) as part of their training to increase strength?
Maybe it is a descendant of Chinese Pole, which uses very similar techniques but is on a rubber-sleeved pole to aid grip, and showcased around the world thanks to Cirque du Solei. Or did it stem from the strip clubs of Montreal and Ontario in Canada, circa 1980s?
How about a serious and credible form of dance and superb way of conditioning your body?
The fact is that the origins of pole dancing has links to all the above and evolved throughout history to make pole dancing and pole fitness what it is today.
So, what is pole dancing?
It is a comprehensive way of toning, conditioning and strengthening your entire body with courses and classes in gyms worldwide. It is a universally accepted form of dance, with an increasing number of classically-trained dancers expressing themselves through pole dancing.
It is a means of liberation, where women have reclaimed pole dancing from its seedier past and created an environment where they are free to express themselves and their sexuality through dance.
Finally, pole dancing is passion and accepting yourself for who you are in an empowering environment.
